CWI joins forces with startup Raynetics to push the frontiers of 3D image reconstruction
AI-driven microscopy meets computational imaging excellence.
Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has teamed up with deep-tech startup Raynetics, a fast-rising Amsterdam company specialising in AI-based 3D image reconstruction. As part of this strategic partnership, CWI’s Tristan van Leeuwen, group leader in Computational Imaging, has joined Raynetics' advisory board. CWI also takes a minority stake in the company.
From pixels to precision
Raynetics was co-founded by former CWI postdoc Ajinkya Kadu and develops AI software that transforms raw microscopy data—like STEM, FIB-SEM and EDXS—into ultra-precise 3D models. These high-fidelity reconstructions allow scientists and engineers to identify material defects, analyse internal structures, and optimise performance at atomic to microscale.

And soon, users will be able to access them globally via a cloud-native platform, no specialist hardware or expertise required.

CWI’s Computational Imaging group—known for pioneering mathematical techniques and its custom-built FleX-ray Lab—will provide cutting-edge research insights to support Raynetics’ innovation roadmap.

“My role is to guide Raynetics with the latest insights in computational imaging,” says Van Leeuwen. “This partnership gives CWI valuable exposure to commercial use-cases of our scientific research.”
